Avocado: The Ultimate Super Food

Unlock Your Brain Power with this Amazing Fruit, Lovingly Known as Alligator Pear

When I say beta-carotene, what comes to mind? Huh, you say. Carrots, right? Sure, just roll with me. So, when I say lycopene, you say…yes, tomatoes. Lycopene and beta-carotene are two extremely important anti-oxidants most closely associated with orange or reddish fruits and vegetables. Well, guess what green, weird shaped fruit, has more of both anti-oxidants with one peel tied behind its back than a pound of carrots and a bunch of tomatoes put together. Yep, that’s right…the all mighty Alligator Pear! That’s not all. We’re just getting started on the amazingness of the avocado.

I think most of us know that avocados are high in fat. However, are they actually fattening? The answer…yes and no. here are three big words—beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol. Mean anything to you…me either. After some reading, I learned that those three things are mainly responsible for our inflammatory systems. What does that mean concerning avocados? Hold onto your socks. Avocados contain high amounts of all three, and works as an anti-inflammatory, especially for people with arthritis. Ta-da! All right, hold it down; we’re still not done yet.

Oleic acid…what is it? Well, it’s a monounsaturated fatty acid that helps turn bad fat into good fat, a lot like olives. Didn't I tell you these things were amazing? Alligator Pears, eaten responsibly, are actually good for your heart’s health. Of course, you have to eat a well-balanced diet along with those wonderful fruits, which I am no longer going to feel guilty for eating. But wait…there’s more!

As writers, we have to keep the creative juices flowing. We have to concentrate—put words together to form thoughts that make sense. As freelancers, we are expected to write about various subjects at the drop of a dime. On top of everything else, avocados are BRAIN FOOD. These green wonders of nature contain vitamin E and K, potassium and magnesium, and can help keep our blood sugar down—all that adds up to a healthy brain. When we have the right amounts of all the combined nutrients avocados provide, our brains function better! Studies show that people who eat avocados at least three times a week have higher brain function than those that do not. Oh, yeah!

So now what do you think about adding avocado to your salad or burger? I say, bring it on!
